Does Algaecide Affect Alkalinity

Some chemicals used to balance your swimming pool water take some time to work changing the pool water chemistry like alkalinity and pH while stabilizing by mixing through the entire pool by way of the pool’s filtering system. The better the mix the quicker they work like Algaecide. Does algaecide affect alkalinity?

Algaecide does affect pool chemistry by killing algae and reducing the alkalinity level of your pool. If the alkalinity of your pool is less than 80 ppm, after shocking and adding an algaecide, you will need to increase the alkalinity by adding Baking Soda.

Carbon dioxide, bicarbonate, and carbonate are the most critical forms of alkalinity with respect to changes in lagoon pH as a result of algal growth. Algae consume carbon dioxide during photosynthesis, and this consumption is responsible for an increase in pH.

Does Algaecide Affect Alkalinity

Algaecide does affect pool chemistry by killing algae and reducing the alkalinity level of your pool. If the alkalinity of your pool is less than 80, aftershock and adding an algaecide, you will need to increase the alkalinity by adding Baking Soda.

Algaecide is added to the pool as a support to the chlorine. Algaecide helps weaken the algae so that chlorine has an easier job killing them. Algaecide, by itself, does not affect the pH of the pool. However, the addition of algaecide will hasten the process of the chlorine killing the algae. As the algae start to die, the demand for chlorine starts dropping.

Algaecide will kill the algae and mold affecting your pool water, but it is best used as an algae preventative. While it does not change the pH balance of your pool water, it will keep algae from growing and work with your chlorine sanitizer to keep those levels balanced.

Does Algaecide Affect pH

Algaecide will kill the algae and mold affecting your pool water, but it is best used as an algae preventative. While it does not change the pH balance of your pool water, it will keep algae from growing and work with your chlorine sanitizer to keep those levels balanced.

Algaecides do not directly affect the pH balance in your pool, but too many algae will raise the pH level. By eliminating algae, the algaecide helps return pH levels to normal. Algaecide also works together with chlorine, helping the chlorine to be more effective against algae and bacteria.

Which chemical do you add first Algaecide or Shock?

You should first shock/super chlorinate your pool to levels above 5 ppm-scrub the walls & floor of your pool then wait for the chlorine levels to fall below 5 PPM. When they do, add algaecide to your pool. This will kill off the rest of the algae and provide a preventative …………………………………………… Read more

How long after Adding Algaecide can you Shock?

While shocking and adding algaecide is effective in getting rid of algae, it should not be done together. When you mix chlorine and algaecide, it renders both of them useless. You should first shock the pool and wait for the chlorine level to become normal (1-3 ppm), after 24 hrs or so, and then add ……………………………………………. Read more

Can I Add Alkalinity and Algaecide at the Same Time

It is not recommended to add alkalinity and algaecide at the same time in a pool. According to The Pool And Deck website, there is no point in adding pH Up & algaecide at the same time. You need to know the actual pH reading of the pool water first. The pH level of the pool water will stabilize only 24 hours after the addition of algaecide

The pH level of the pool water will stabilize only 24 hours after the addition of algaecide. You should add the algaecide, preferably sometime in the evening, with the filter pump running. You should run the filter pump for around 2-4 hours. This will ensure that the entire pool is populated with the algaecide. I have found that the longer the algaecide mixes the better.

What I do is make any changes or adjustments at night then let the filter pump run overnight. This procedure works for me for a couple of different reasons. Make the Alkalinity and pH balance adjustments first, then before you turn in for the night add Algaecide. Let the pool water mix all night with the filter system on.

  • The pool is not being used at night
  • The price for electricity is the cheapest kilowatt rate between 10 pm and 8 am in the morning
  • This gives the chemicals plenty of time to stabilize especially Algaecide will get plenty of time to mix.

How Long After Algaecide Can You Add a Clarifier

After adding the Algaecide to your pool, H2O should have turned from green to a cloudy blue/grey color. Now is the time to add Pool Clarifier and let it circulate for 12 hours. This will clump the dead algae together into easy-to-vacuum pieces..……………………………read more
